Tom Yum Koong Restaurant Celebrates 2nd Anniversary w/ New Dining Room

Today marks the second anniversary of the grand opening of Tom Yum Koong, a Thai restaurant in Medford Square. Restaurateur Tom Daranuwat and his family opened Tom Yum Koong in 2006 with just takeout and delivery service. But due to popular demand by a loyal client base, they converted the space next door (former space for 13FOREST Gallery - now in Arlington) into an intimate, comfortable dining room with a contemporary feel.

What makes Tom Yum Koong stand out among the myriad Thai restaurants in the Greater Boston area? Let’s start with the name. Tom yum koong is a traditional Thai soup dish with made with young coconut, fresh shrimp and herbs and spices with a spicy, tangy flavor. According to Daranuwat, no one else in Boston makes Tom Yum Koong in the authentic manner the way they do. Tom Yum Koong Restaurant is about presenting fresh, authentic Thai dishes to the general American audience while still offering different innovative new dishes. The Daranuwat family had years of restaurant experience in Bangkok and they take pride in their craft.

Tom Yum Koong is also known for their great service in the past for takeout and delivery. Daranuwat knows his loyal customers and understands their taste. In their new sit-in dining service, you will not be disappointed by the equal attentiveness of their staff. The dining room menu has a larger selection than the takeout menu and includes house specialties, such as “Seafood Hot Pot” and “Soft-shelled Crab with Yellow Curry.”

Tom Yum Koong’s dining room seats 38 people and can host parties in its intimate space. Their beer and wine license is pending.

What's more, they'll be displaying my artwork in their restaurant soon! Stay tuned...

The address of Tom Yum Koong is 11 Forest Street, Meford, MA 02155. You can take a look at their partial (takeout) menu online at www.tomyumkoong.net. Phone: 781.393.0888; fax: 781.393.8488. The restaurant is opened 7 days a week, 11am-10pm.
